Aoun was an impressive winner of the ninth leg of the President of the UAE Cup for Purebred Arabians at the Anfa Ramil racetrack in Casablanca, Morocco, on Sunday.
Trained by Antoine de Watrigan, the four-year-old chestnut son of Mahabb ridden by Roberto-Carlos Montenegro in the silks of Yas Racing Management sprinted clear of the 10 rivals to take the €100,000 race on a rain-drenched dirt track over the 2,100-metre trip.
The race series celebrating 25 years was held under the patronage of the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
HE Ali Salem Al Kaabi, UAE’s ambassador to Morocco, presented the winner’s trophy in the presence of HE Faisal Al Rahmani, General Supervisor of the races, and Saeed Al Muhairi, Director of Technical Affairs Department at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
“To have a race series for Purebred Arabians conducted around the world for 25 years without an interruption is a great achievement itself,” said HE Al Kaabi.
“The UAE under the leadership of the nation has taken the cue to promote and preserve races for the Purebred Arabians and has achieved overwhelming success, as we have seen the high quality of races run in Casablanca.”
