The National Sports Day celebrated with full-day sporting activities in Abu Dhabi

The National Sports Day, an initiative of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will be celebrated with a full-day programme drawn up by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council on Wednesday, March 8.
The third staging of the Sports Day includes several sports activities and a walkathon led by Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the ADSC at the Zayed Sports City at 10am.
The programme was drawn up in the presence of HE Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Chairman of the General Authority for Sport and Vice President of ADSC, HE Dr Mughir Khamis Al Khaili, Head of Community Development Department, and HE Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Head of the Department of Education and Knowledge, and Acting Director General of ADSC.
The Sports Day programme is organised and conducted in association with the Department of Education and Knowledge, Ministry of Interior, General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, Abu Dhabi Sports Clubs in the Al Ain and Al Dhafra regions.
Hundreds of school children and their families will take part in a wide range of sporting activities across more than 200 schools in Abu Dhabi.
HE Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of ADSC, expressed his appreciation for the generous support received by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and reflected this support in motivating local athletes to compete at the highest levels internationally.
“Organising the National Sports Day for the third year reflects the value of sport and health and the need to promote and spread its culture in our societies to preserve the future of our generations,” he said.
HE Al Awani emphasised that the initiatives made by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid underscored the importance of leadership in motivating all segments of society to promote positive practices.
“We are announcing a series of sporting events that will cover all segments of society that include children, men and women of all ages and at all levels in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dhafra,” he added.
“The Department of Education and Knowledge has arranged sporting activities in more than 200 schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dhafra.”
In the morning, 15 sporting competitions including football, volleyball and basketball will be conducted in the schools under the supervision of the Department of Education and Knowledge.
Later in the evening, a series of events takes place with the Abu Dhabi Women's Dash in Al Bateen Beach (4-8 pm), Chess tournaments organised by Abu Dhabi Chess Club (5-8 pm) and Equestrian activities at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club (4-6 pm).
Women's sporting activities at Yas Circuit (6-9 pm) organized by the Fatima bint Mubarak Academy for Women's Sports, and Abu Dhabi Marine Sports activities will be conducted by the Abu Dhabi International Marine Club.
Sailing and Yacht Sports (10 am - 8pm), the road races for men, women, children and for the disabled at Corniche at (8:30am).
Foot pool for all nationalities organised by Al Wahda Football Company (10am).
The Ministry of the Interior will also hold various sports activities at Zayed Sports City (9am). Al Ain will also witness a variety of sports activities at the Al Ain Sports Centre.
