The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the schedule of the West Indies Tour to Pakistan 2016 which sees Abu Dhabi hosting both the T20 and One-Day International final game deciders at Abu Dhabi Cricket Club’s state-of-the-art Zayed Cricket Stadium.
Following a new partnership between Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and PCB, Abu Dhabi will see the deciding game of the T20 series being battled out on the evening of Tuesday, September 27, the third One-Day International game decider on Wednesday, October 5 and the series’ 2nd Test Match running Friday, October 21 - Tuesday, October 25.
The Pakistan ‘home’ series against the West Indies, which begins September 23rd, comprises 3 T20 Internationals, 3 One-Day Internationals and 3 Test Matches.
“This hosting agreement represents the first of new initiatives by Abu Dhabi Sports Council to promote the game of cricket within the emirate,” explained His Excellency Aref Al Awani, General Secretary, ADSC. “It has enabled us to bring another world-class event to another of our worldclass facilities.
“We anticipate a significant turnout of UAE residents from the many cricket-loving nations who will be excited to see Pakistan - the world’s new No.1 ‘Test Team’ - and ICC T20 World Champions the West Indies, including Jamaica’s batting superstar Chris Gayle, front each other for honours. We look forward to filling the stadium’s 15,000 seats to capacity and given its location in Khalifa City, just off a superb road network, it makes it easily accessible to spectators from within Abu Dhabi, Dubai and the Northern Emirates.”
The agreement also promotes Pakistan’s long-standing relationship with Abu Dhabi Cricket Club. The last T20 at Zayed Cricket Stadium was Pakistan v England played on Feb 27, 2012 when England won by five runs.
PCB Chairman, Shaharyar Khan commented: “We welcome the new initiatives undertaken by Abu Dhabi Sports Council for the Pakistan v West Indies Series. PCB places great value on its longstanding association with the Club and the Zayed Cricket Stadium. We are confident that this
new partnership with the ADSC will bring evermore cricket fans to our matches. We wish the ADSC and ADCC all the best for the upcoming matches”
In the series, the PCB will also host its first ever Day Night test match from October 13-17 in a match to be played with the Pink Ball under lights at the Dubai Cricket Stadium. The West Indies will also play a 3-day first class game under lights in Sharjah against the PCB Patrons XI as part of the preparation for the Day Night Test Match.
