The Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) football tournament for four age groups gets underway from Friday.
It has drawn teams from leading clubs Al Ain, Dhafra, Al Jazira, Al Wahda and Baniyas in the U14, U15, U16 and U18 age groups, and the matches of Al Ain, Jazira and Baiyas will be played in the club stadiums.
Saeed Al Muhairi, Director of the Department of Technical Affairs at ADSC, said the tournament provides youngsters the opportunity to play at a competitive level at an early age.
“This tournament was launched as part of the sports council’s development program to provide the youngsters more playing opportunities and improve their skill levels,” he said.
“The clubs have large numbers of players and they can’t provide everyone the playing opportunities. With this tournament, they can give their reserves the chance to play.
“It will allow the technical staff to identify more players and expand their pool of players. The players also get the opportunity to show their skills and talents for selections.”
The ADSC tournament runs until September 1 as part of their preparation for the 2018-2019 season.
