The Ivory Coast delegation for the Special Olympics IX MENA Games were accorded to the "host cities programme" tour of Al Ain by the local organising committee on Monday.
They were received by Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrouie, Minister of State Affairs and Chairman of the local organising committee, at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club.
The African contingent made up of 17 handball players, technical staff and officials, were taken on a city tour of Al Ain, including visits to the Hazza bin Zayed stadium and Jebel Hafeet.
The local organisers have a similar itinerary for the Canadian contingent on Wednesday which also include visits to the Sheikh Zayed Palace Museum, Sheikh Zayed Heritage Park, Al Qattara stadium and the Al Ain Zoo.
Desrassuba Dono, head of the Ivory Coast delegation and Director of Special Olympics in the country, expressed her gratitude to the UAE and the local organising committee for the warm reception and hospitality provided to them.
"We are so impressed of the state of the art infrastructure and the high-level of sporting facilities where the MENA Games and the 2019 World Games will be staged, she said.
