The Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s (ADSC) age group football championship will kick off across three stadiums – Al Ain, Al Jazira and Al Wahda – from Sunday.

The competition staged for under 14, 15, 16 and 17, contested by Al Ain, Al Dhafra, Al Jazira, Al Wahda and Baniyas, is designed as a pre-runner for the season for the five Abu Dhabi clubs.

Talal Al Hashemi, ADSC’s Director of Technical Affairs, emphasised the opportunities provided for teenage players to get a head start for the season ahead.

“This tournament provides the opportunity for a majority of the reserve players to participate in these games,” he said.

“It also provides the opportunity for the technical and administrative staff to see how these players can prove their abilities to book their places in the lineup for their respective teams.”

Al Hashemi pointed out that the championship is based on the studies and technical fundamentals within the development programs of the ADSC, and its strong support for the development of the age group teams of the Abu Dhabi clubs.

“The tournament allow parents to follow, encourage and motivate their children before the start of the season. We wish everyone success during the upcoming sporting season.”
