The Abu Dhabi Schools Champions Gymnastics competitions successfully concluded last weekend with a great finals day held at the Armed Forces Officers Club in the capital, Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and Hussein Murad, CEO of Inspiratus, the organizing company for Abu Dhabi Schools Champions, amid a large crowd of cheering parents, coaches and supporters who came out to support the young gymnasts battling it out for the gold. The Finals for the remainining 6 sports, originally scheduled for March 14, will be held at a later date to be communicated shortly.
In Cycle 1 boys Floor, Masato Mizuguchi from the Japanese School of Abu Dhabi took home the gold with 9.5 points, while Aniket Nayak from the Private International English School took home the silver with 9.1 points. The bronze medal went to Ghaith Al-Kindy from Al Afaaq School, who earned 8.8 points.
In Cycle 1 girls, level 2, Lana Hafez Nouh from Al Najah Private School was crowned first in Vault with 9.7 points. Lara Majdi Alnajjar from Horizon Private School came in second with 9.55 points. while Dana Fadi Mustafa Doulh from International Community School earned third place with 9.5 points.
In Bar, Cycle 1, level 1, Maria El Zyr from Lycée Louis Massignon School took home the gold with 9.8 points, while Ameera Fadi Mustafa Doulh from International Community School took on the silver with 9.7 points, and Shahd Ramy El Shammaa from Lycée Louis Massignon School took home the bronze with 9.5 points.
In Cycle 1 girls Beam apparatus, Hanabi Mizuguchi from the Japanese School of Abu Dhabi scored 9.9 points to finish first, followed by Boonnita Cig from Repton School and Yara Majdi Alnajjar from Horizon Private School who tied for silver with 9.8 points, and Haripriya Singh from Amity School, who earned third place with 9.75 points.
In cycle 2 girls, level 2 Floor, Gwen Tabet from Lycée Louis Massignon School took home the gold with 9.65 points, while the silver medal went to Ayah Dawwas from Al Yasmina Academy School who scored 9.6 points, and Polina Chirkova from Cranleigh Abu Dhabi took the bronze with 9.6 points.
Football:
In other sports, the Abu Dhabi Cricket Club hosted the knockout stage of the football competition. In Cycle 2 boys, International Community School beat Merryland International School 3-0. In Cycle 3 Boys, the Model School beat International Community School 1-0 and then went on to beat Al-Manhal International Private School School 3-1.
Over in Al Ain Club, the boys’ matches were action-packed with Emirates National School beating Grace Valley Indian School 2-1 in the Cycle 2 competition. In Cycle 3, Al-Israa Private School and Gulf International Private Academy faced off in a tough match that went to penalty shoot-outs, with Al-Israa Private School winning at the final whistle.
Basketball:
In the basketball Cycle 2 competition in Abu Dhabi held at Baniyas Sports Club, Summit International School beat Merryland International School 11-1. Over in Al Ain, in the Cycle 3 Boys competition held at Brighton College, Al Ain Juniors School beat Gulf International Private Academy 12-11. Similarly, in the Cycle 2 girls’ competition, Al Ain Juniors School beat Global English School 15-5, while Dar Al Huda Islamic School beat the Our Own English School 10-2. The Cycle 3 girls’ competition was a show of brilliance on the court, with Al Ain Juniors School beating the Our Own English School 7-2 and the Gulf International Private Academy beating the Future International School 25-11.
Volleyball and Handball:
In the Cycle 3 handball competitions held at Brighton College in Al Ain, Dar Al Uloom Private School scored a great win over Global English School of 8-1, while Shakhbout Bin Sultan School and Global English School drew 6-6. Shakhbout Bin Sultan School was able to qualify as it had accumulated more points than Global English School. Shakhbout Bin Sultan School faced off Dar Al Uloom School with a difficult match, conceding defeat to Dar Al Uloom School with a final score of 10-5.
Over in Al Ain, the Cycle 3 volleyball competition, Gulf International Private Academy beat Al Manahil Private School 3-0, while Al Ain Juniors Private School beat Al Manahil Private School 3-0.
Swimming:
In the girls Cycle 2 competition, Malak Ahmed Ibrahim from ABC Private School swam 25 meters breaststroke in 18.8 seconds, while in Cycle 3 Girls competition, Christelle Feghali, from Lycée Louis Massignon School, swam the same distance in 17.84.
Athletics:
In the Athletics competitions held at the Armed Forces Officers Club, in Cycle 2 boys, Muhammad Fadhil ran the fastest time in 12.3 seconds for 100 meters and 200 meters in 25.63 seconds. In the 400 meters competition, Mohammed Thanish from the same school ran the distance in 64.83 seconds.
In Cycle 3 boys, from the Model Private School, Anshil Mizyad Yousaf was the fastest, running 100m in 11.5 seconds and 200m in 23.44 seconds, while Abdul Azeem Chiraparmbil ran 400m in 63.91 seconds.
In Cycle 2 girls Neha Haneesh from Private International English School ran a distance of 100 meters in 15.1 seconds and 200 meters in 32.6 seconds, while Anastasia Barsoom from Horizon Private School ran 400 meters in 75.07 seconds.
The Cycle 3 girls Lana Meharin from the Model Private School ran the 100m race in 15.31 seconds followed by Rita Ghrayeb from Horizon Private School in 15.37 seconds. Meharin ran the fastest time in the 200m race making it in 32.47 seconds.
Commenting on Abu Dhabi Schools Champions’ first gymnastics final, Talal Al Hashimi, Director of Sports Development Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council commented, "We are so proud of the success of the Abu Dhabi Schools Champions in its first year, both in gymnastics and the other sports. This initiative contributes greatly towards the strategy of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council to embed sport a way of life for all segments of society, here through school students. It also provides a great pathway for talent discovery for local teams and clubs. Several players participating in the tournament have already been scouted and joined Abu Dhabi clubs."
Al Hashimi added: "We want to extend our sincere thanks to the participating students, as well as to their parents for their support and permanent presence to encourage their children, as well as to the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Ministry of Education and all the partners who contributed to the success of this event."
