Martin Lebeck and Shannon Benson emerged winners of the inaugural Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s (ADSC) Al Hudayriat Island triathlon on Friday.
The Frenchman Lebeck clocked 2 hours 19 minutes and 16 seconds and the Canadian Benson clocked 2:20:30 in the two individual categories (made up of 1,500m swim, 41km cycling and 10km run) for men and women respectively.
The event drew more than 400 participants in the individual and the relay, and was the first it’s kind organised by ADSC.
In the shorter distances, Britons David Hicks and Ben Barnell in the men’s, and in the women’s events Australian Joan Norman and Juliette from Belgium emerged winners.
Khalifa Al Qahtani, Director of Community Services and Community Services Department, said the event was a great success and they were encouraged and looked forward to more such events in the near future.
“A profound thank you to everyone who contributed to this event, the organisers as well as the participants, to make this event a huge success,” he Al Qahtani.
Khalid Al Qubaisi, Head of Community Sports Department and the Department of Technical Affairs at ADSC, said the Al Hudayriat Island was an ideal venue for such event.
“The triathlon is another great event to add to our growing list of sporting events for the community,” he added.
The ADSC triathlon was staged in cooperation with the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, Health Department, DOT, Al Ain Water, National Ambulance and Gulf Multi Sport.
