“Sporting events do not come much more high-profile than the global phenomenon that is the Indian Premier League, and it is another accolade for Abu Dhabi to celebrate that a tournament of such stature has chosen the Emirate as its preferred host destination. Not only does bringing the 13th edition of the tournament here put the global spotlight on Abu Dhabi's capacity to host mega-events of this size, in terms of infrastructure and hospitality, but it also highlights our dedication to world-leading innovation, as we have shown that even during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is possible to host mega events successfully – as shown by our recent UFC Fight Island event in Abu Dhabi.

“Staging the IPL here will contribute to enhancing Abu Dhabi's global appeal, and adds to the diversity of our cultural, entertainment and tourism offerings. Sporting events is a segment that we see has enormous opportunity for growth. By fully unlocking the UAE’s potential in terms of innovation, infrastructure, and knowledge, we can accelerate our tourism sector and establish the Emirates as key destinations for hosting key sporting events.

“Abu Dhabi’s sporting credentials are already well established, with the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, UAE Tour, Abu Dhabi World Jiu Jitsu Championship, AFC Asian Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Volvo Ocean Race amongst many other events having enjoyed – or are still enjoying – Abu Dhabi’s hospitality. Now we are delighted to be adding the IPL to our ‘family’ of world-class sports events, and we can’t wait to introduce cricket enthusiasts from across the world to our awesome emirate.”
