HE Mohammed Khalfan Al Romaithi, Chairman of UAE General Authority of Sports, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The visiting AFC delegation included Mariano Araneta Jr, FIFA Council and AFC Executive Committee Member, and AFC Director of Competitions- Shin Man Gil, and members of the AFC Competitions’ Committee.
Al Romaithi and the visiting delegation discussed in full UAE’s clubs participation in the AFC champions’ league 2018 competition.
Al Romaithi assured to the AFC delegation that UAE’s clubs participating in the AFC champions’ league 2018 competition will not play in a certain neighboring country- and if any matches to be played against the clubs of that country, they must be played in a neutral country.
He explained to the delegation the causes of this State’s decision, asked for AFC understanding, and assured that this decision is final and nobody will force UAE clubs to play in that certain country.
The meeting of Al Romaithi with AFC delegation was attended by HE Aref Hamad Al Awani, ADSC General Secretary, and HE Abdul Allah Nasser Al Junaibi, Deputy Chairman of UAE Football Association and Chairman of the UAE Professional Football League, HE Mohammed bin Hazzam Al Dhaheri, General Secretary UAE Football Association, and HE Nasser bin Thaloube Al Darrie, Director of the Office of the Chairman of the UAE Football Association
