Arab University swim festival draws strong competition

The Arab University Sports Federation drew more than 350 participants in the Swimming Festival organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) at the capital’s Corniche.

The sea swim festival at the Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club at the weekend saw strong competition from the participants.

Mohammed Al Hammadi (U15) clinching a double in the U15 division by taking gold in the 3000-metre race in 44:47 minutes and the 750m event in 16:47.

Australian Joan Norman dominated the open category with triple gold in the 3000m, 1500m and 750m distances. She clocked 47:42, 24:04 and 18:09 minutes, respectively, in the three events.

Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in cooperation with the Arab Federation of University Sports, Health, Al Ain Water, Gulf Multisport and Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club.

Ahmad Hamoud Al Ghalabi, representing the Arab University Sports Federation, was guest of honour and presented the awards to the winners.

Khalid Al Qubaisi, ADSC’s Head of Community Sports, was overwhelmed of the numbers at the event and said plans are already underway to host this event regularly by including cycling, running, triathlon, aquathlon and duathlon to name a few.

“Our objective is to diversify our sports activities on a weekly basis to reach all segments of the community and to allow everyone to register and participate in these competitions,” he said.
