Dalma Mall hosted the second Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s (ADSC) indoor community race for the season on Friday.
The popular event held in the cool hallways of the mall saw 626 runners both men, women and children from ages four to 69 participate across four distances of 1.5km, 2.5km, 5km and 10km.
Frenchman Gerald Devisme and Britain’s Nichola Cooper were winners of the 10-kilometre races for men and women respectively.
Devisme completed back-to-back victories having won the season opener at the Yas Mall two weeks ago. He clocked 36.28 minutes followed home by Nigerian Odu Yahya (37.00) and Spanish Alejandro Dominguez (38.02).
Abubaker Al Houqani was first in the 5km run for men and Britain’s Clare McCabe took the women’s event.
Ahmed Al Naqbi and Britain’s Jasmine Pitman were winners of the 2.5km races form men and women respectively while Hamdan Al Ali took the boys 1.5km run and Aaliya Nimgade bagged the prize for girls.
Khalid Al Qubaisi, ADCS’s Head of Community Sports, said they were delighted at the growing popularity of the event.
“The numbers tell us the story of the community race,” he said of the event launched under the directives of the UAE Government to promote “healthy lifestyle” among all communities.
“We encourage more people to join us. These events are fun and open to everyone. All one has to do is to log into our website www.adsc.ae and select the events one wants to participate in.”
Al Qubaisi thanks the day’s event sponsor by ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon and ADNOC Distribution, and the Dalma Mall management, Al Ain Water and Gulf Multisport.
The registration are open for the Al Ain Cycle race on September 20 and the next indoor community race at the Yas Mall Community on September 27
