The UAE women's national hockey team returned with the silver medal from the Challenge Cup of Asia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
They overcame India 6-1 and the Philippines 5-4 but went down to Malaysia 5-3 in the four-team league that concluded over the weekend.
Dana Al Hosani won the MVP of the tournament while teammates Maryam Al Mazroui took the Best Defence and Latifa Al Suwaidi Player of the Year awards.
Fatima Karashi and Al Mazroui won the Best Player awards in the second and third games respectively.
HE Hamad Al Shuraani, Vice President, and Juma Al Dhaheri, General Secretary, both of the Emirates Ice Sports Federation (EISF), welcomed the team on their arrival at the Abu Dhabi International Airport on Sunday.
The UAE national team was made up of Fatima Karashi, Aya Al Sejwani, Dana Al Hosani, Mona Al Suwaidi, Fatima Al Rashedi, Latifa Al Suwaidi and Mariam Al Shehhi. Khalid Al Habsi, accompanied them as the team director.
"We congratulate the team and both the technical and administrative staff on this happy occasion," said Al Shuraani.
"It's a remarkable result for our women's national team and they have made us and the country proud with this achievement."
Al Dhaheri said the result in the continental competition is testimony of the progress made by the UAE national women's team.
According to him, the EISF President Dr Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei has long term plans to further develop the women's game in the country.
"The federation arranged a camp in the United States of America as part of their preparation for the Challenge Cup of Asia and the team seemed to have benefitted massively," said Al Dhaheri.
"But all credit should must go to the players. We must applaud them for their work and commitment to reach a good level and return with an outstanding result."
