Spanish stars Moreintes, Sanz attend La Liga workshop
Spanish stars Fernando Morientes and Fernando Sanz attended a workshop for “La Liga Ambassadors” on the sidelines of the 24th edition of the La Liga Promises International U12 Championship at the Hazza bin Zayed stadium in Al Ain.
Mansour Al Balushi, of Abu Dhabi Sports Channel, moderated the event in the presence of Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Sultan Rashid, Al Ain Club’s supervisor of the first team and sports director.
In attendance were also a number of players from the five Abu Dhabi clubs - Al Ain. Al Jazira, Baniyas, Al Wahda an Al Dhafra – and representatives of local and international media.
Sanz, the former Real Madrid defender and regional director of the La Liga League in the Middle East, commended the La Liga Promises World Championship in Al Ain held for the first time in the Middle East.
“The high levels of the international and local teams on display were a delight to watch,” he said.
“I would like to think the majority of these talented young footballers will make it to their respective clubs first teams as well as their national teams, and perhaps, cross their paths again at either club or national team matches.”
Sanz was also all praise of the long-standing partnership between La Liga and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council since 2014.
Morientes, another Real Madrid star who also plied his trade at the Premier League club Liverpool, added: “I watched some of the games and the talents on show were amazing.
“Some of these youngsters can go on to become another Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi in the future.
“The coaches at this level play an important role in perfecting these young talents and making them play in a collective way, because football is a team game.
“To reach a good level in world football players must avoid distractions and keep fit always. There are no short cuts to achieve objectives in life but if one can make that commitment then I can say you are on the right path.”
