The sixth season of the Pakistan Premier League (PSL) resumed at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The tournament was moved to the United Arab Emirates after the league competitions were suspended in March in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan due to the spate of positive cases among players and technical staff.
The competitions of the six participating teams in the league will continue until June 24 with matches taking place daily, including six days double headers, the first game at 5pm and the second starting at 10pm. The single day games are slated for 8pm starts.
His Excellency Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, expressed his delight and appreciation to the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, for their efforts in overcoming all difficulties, to complete the Pakistan Premier League competitions in the capital city.
It indicates the UAE has become an inspiring global model and is at the forefront of destinations. International sports, through its distinctive plans and tight application of a set of controls, preventive measures and precautionary measures aimed at the safety and health of all.
“Abu Dhabi Sports Council attaches the utmost importance to supporting recovery plans and initiatives for the gradual return to normal life, under its direct supervision over the stages of the return of sports activity in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi,” he said.
“We were able in Abu Dhabi to host a group of elite international sporting events, confirming the confidence of sports federations and institutions. The international community achieved the position that the capital achieved in managing the crisis, and after it became the safest in the world, and all the tournaments that were organized came out in their best forms.”
He added, "We welcome all participants in the Pakistan Premier League, including players and organizers, wishing success and safety for all, and we thank the Zayed Cricket Stadium staff, whose efforts to host the league matches in a safe and comfortable manner reflects professionalism in work.
