The Saafan Stables celebrated a double on the opening meeting of The President of the UAE Cup for Purebred Arabians in Cairo racecourse on Saturday.

Murad Saafan and Jawhara Safaan won the first two races on the card both over the sprint distance of 1,200 metres while Maghwar Ekhnatoon bagged the next run over 1,400m.

The races were attended by Ahmed Abdullah Bu Shuwaireb, the UAE Charge D’Affairs to Egypt, representatives from the Egyptian Ministry of Sports and Youth, and Faisal Al Rahmani, consultant for the President’s Cup race series for Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC).

The 10-race series is held under the patronage of The UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

The silver jubilee year of the series for Purebred Arabians moves to France next, with a Group 1 race for €100,000 included in the Abu Dhabi French Guineas meeting.

The Guineas meeting will be held at the rebranded Paris Longchamp racecourse when it re-opens to the public after major refurbishment which took nearly two years to complete.

The race series is held under the umbrella of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs but will continue as before with the involvement of the ADSC committee for the President’s Cup and the Emirates Equestrian Federation.
