The inaugural stop of the 2018 Red Bull Air Race World Championship arrives in Abu Dhabi 2-3 February – marking the eleventh time the UAE capital has hosted the first race of the year.

With special purpose-built areas around the Abu Dhabi Corniche for fans to catch all the action, the 2018 Red Bull Air Race will not only showcase the best pilots in the business, but will also host a number of exclusive entertainment offerings on the ground with the introduction of two special zones, along with an in-air extravaganza by a real-life ‘rocket man’.

Red Bull Car Park Drift 2018 UAE Qualifiers
Those familiar with the Red Bull Car Park Drift series will know just how skillful these talented drivers need to be to make it through to the next round. And the Red Bull Air Race weekend will play host to the first 2018 UAE qualifiers where the best drifters in the country will be battling it out for the chance to represent the Emirates in the series final in September.

Taking place in the Nations Tower parking lot, 16 drifters will compete for the much-coveted spot to represent their country.

Now in its tenth year in the UAE, Red Bull Car Park Drift showcases the best of the best driving talent from Egypt, Kuwait, Tunisia, Morocco, Turkey, Algeria, Jordan, Mauritius and Lebanon. Last year’s UAE’s representative was Mohammad Al Mansouri, whose performance in his Nissan Silvia S13 offered spectators an unforgettable show.

The tyre-smoking spectacle takes place on 2 February from 2pm.

Neymar Jr’s Five 2018
Red Bull Air Race will kick off the very first UAE qualifier of the Neymar Jr’s Five tournament for 2018. The aim of the game is simple – two teams of five players enter a match, with a game not lasting longer than 10 minutes. Once a team scores a goal, the other team loses a player. The game ends whenever one team is out of players. The Abu Dhabi qualifiers will pave the way for footballers in other emirates to compete in their respective qualifiers – all for the chance to battle it out in the UAE final, set to take place in Sharjah on 16 March.

Now in its third year, more than 60 countries from six continents will host tournament qualifiers, where players will be competing to make it to the global final held at Instituto Projeto Neymar Jr in Praia Grande, Brazil.

Last year, more than 100,000 players from 53 countries – including Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Philippines, Nigeria, Pakistan and of course, the United Arab Emirates – battled it out to be crowned World Champions, with Romania coming out victorious.

Real-life rocket man

Last but not least, spectators will have the chance to witness a real-life flying human with an appearance by JetPack Aviation’s David Mayman.

The CEO, co-founder and test pilot is the driving force behind the creation of the world’s first practical, portable micro-VTOL turbine jetpack. So small that it can fit in the boot of car, the lightweight jetpak can be worn by a single person and flies up to a reported 96 kilometres per hour for up to 10 minutes.

“I’m thrilled to be flying for Red Bull,” Mayman said.
