A football “referees workshop” in cooperation with the UAE Football Association and La Liga, the Spanish Professional League, was an added highlight of the La Liga Promises International U12 tournament at the Hazza bin Zayed stadium in Al Ain at the weekend.
Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, launched the workshop in the presence of international referees Cesar Barinichia and Arturo Duden.
The workshop discussed many important topics related to refereeing, including new laws, dealing with pressure and the handling of players trying to deceive by acts of simulation.
The football referees were informed they did not have to be conversant or familiar with any languages but apply the universal rule of the whistle to control the game on the pitch.
The FA and the La Liga recommended for referees to refrain from passing comment or debate on social media platforms.
They also stressed the importance a football referees’ academy to provide courses to educate potential referees to reach professional levels.
