The new cycle track at the Al Hudayriat Island was in the spotlight again for the second time in three days when Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) staged a cycling event to mark the United Nation’s World Bicycle Day.
The occasion drew large participation from the ADSC’s community program to cycle on the track interspersed with cultural activities to celebrate the occasion on Sunday.
HE Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Head of Community Development Department, said the government of Abu Dhabi joined the United Nation to commemorate the event.
“Cycling has many benefits,” he said. “It’s environment friendly and affordable transport. Our government has promoted cycling under the slogan of healthy lifestyle but it’s also great fun and enjoyable.
“The UN’s World Bicycle Day is another occasion to create awareness on the welfare of cycling.”
