Saleh Al Hammadi and Elodie Crabos emerged winners of the 10-kilometre indoor runs in the Yas Mall Community race series in Abu Dhabi at the weekend.
The indoor run organised by Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) under the auspices of the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon is the second race after the lockdown and part of the Abu Dhabi Sports Festival.
The Emirati runner Al Hammadi took the men’s main race in a time of 37 minutes 08 seconds. Italian Andrea Ferrario (39.21) and Briton Anthony Ebdon joined him on the podium.
Crabos completed the trip in a time of 49.50. Christine Nicholas of Britain (53.51) took second spot ahead of Emiratis Sara Al Maazmi (53.58) and Dilek Yazici (54.03).
In the 5km run men’s run, American Youssef Rochdi (18.19) got the better of Briton Jon Hunt (19/02) and Australian Hamish McCreanor (19.25).
Jasmine Pitman of Britain won the women’s race in a time of 20.26. American Anselma Ellingwood (20.47) took second spot from Britons Nadine Hacker (21.52) and Harriet Osgerby (22.51).
Local lad Zayed Al Bahhaloly (10.25) was first to cross the finishing line in the men’s 2.5km race. Joining him on the podium were Briton Peter Marshall (10.49) and Emirati Suhail Mohamed (11.09).
Gaby Hall led a top three finish for Britain in the women’s equivalent. She clocked 10.03 ahead of Eva Roberts (11.48) and Ee Eindra Aung (12.06).
His Excellency Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at ADSC, was delighted on the response for the second community race after the lockdown.
“This event coincided with the second day of Eid and had a festive mood to it,” he said.
“It provided a unique opportunity for everyone to celebrate the occasion with family and friends. We wish all the participants in this second edition of the race join us for the next run on 22 August.”
Al Hashemi thanked the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon for sponsoring the race as well as the support extended by Yas Island representing Yas Mall, Al Ain Water and National Ambulance Department.
