Abu Dhabi Sports Council reveals the teams participating in the UAE Women’s Tour 2024
The Abu Dhabi Sports Council - the organizing body for the UAE Women's Tour 2024 - revealed the list of teams participating in the only global race in the Middle East, which is held over 4 stages over a distance of 468 km, during the period from February 8 to 11.
13 international teams and 7 continental teams will compete for the shield of the second edition of the Tour, with the participation of an elite group of international athletes, and among the most important participating names is the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini, holder of the title of the first edition of the UAE Women’s Tour, and the second and third place holders, Gaia Realini and Silvia Persico, respectively.
SDWorks, the winner of the classification of the best women’s team in the world for the year 2023, also announced the participation of Lottie Kubicki and Lorena Wiebes, winners of 11 races last season, including the second stage of the UAE Women’s Tour.
Spanish national champion Mavi Garcia, who finished third in the 2022 Giro d'Italia, will participate for the first time in the Emirates Tour and will be among the contenders for the red jersey. Among the best participants will be strong presence Charlotte Cole, winner of the fourth stage and the green jersey in the UAE Tour, and Chiara Consoni as well.
The international teams participating in the UAE Women's Tour 2024 consist of the German "Canyon", the American "Liddell-Trek", the Dutch "SDWorks", the German "Kertisit", "Movie Star", the French "FDG-Suez", and the French "Phoenix". - Belgian “Dequininc”, American “Human Powered Health”, Australian “Leaf - AlUla - Jayco”, Swiss “Roland”, Dutch “DSM”, UAE “Emirates ADQ”, Norwegian “Uno-X Mobility”.
The continental teams consist of the French "Covidis", the American "IF Education", the Spanish "Laboral Cotexa", the French "ST Michel", the Uzbek "Tashkent", the Norwegian "Cop-Repsol", and the Italian "Nub Girls".
The arrival of the teams will begin over the course of February 5 and 6, and the press conference for the most prominent female participating athletes will be held on Wednesday, February 7, at the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club on Al Hudayriat Island. The routes and jerseys of the anticipated second edition of the UAE Women’s Tour were previously announced, and the first stage will be held. From the Emirates Women’s Tour on Thursday, February 8, in Dubai, starting from “Dubai Miracle Garden - Dubai Harbour”, for a distance of 122 km, followed by the second stage on February 9 from the exciting “Bab Al-Nujoom” in the city of Mirfa - Madinat Zayed, for a distance of 113 km, followed by the third stage. “Al Jabaliya” on February 10, for a distance of 128 km from the Al Ain Police Museum in Al Ain - to the summit of Jebel Hafeet, and the tour concludes its stages in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, February 11, from the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum to the breakwater on the Abu Dhabi Corniche, over a distance of 105 km.
The sponsors of the 2024 UAE Women’s Tour T-shirts were also revealed, supplied by the prominent Italian sports brand “Elli”. The red shirt is sponsored by “Al Ain Water”, the green shirt is “Tadweer”, the white shirt is “Burjeel Holding”, and the black shirt is sponsored by “Aldar”. ".
