Abu Dhabi Winter Games Club Announces New Official Name
The Abu Dhabi Ice Sports Club has officially changed its name to “Abu Dhabi Winter Games Club”, in a strategic move aimed at expanding the scope of its sports activities to include a wider range of winter disciplines.
His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Club’s Board of Directors, stated that this change supports the vision of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and reinforces the club’s position as a dynamic sports institution aligned with the evolving lifestyles of the community. The move also contributes to realizing the Council’s broader goals by offering comprehensive sports programs focused on talent development and preparing athletes for both regional and international competition.
He emphasized that the new name reflects the club’s broader vision, which goes beyond ice hockey and figure skating to embrace a full spectrum of winter sports. This will be supported by a state-of-the-art training environment and advanced development programs that meet the highest international standards—further strengthening the club’s role as a specialized institution in winter sports.
Since its establishment in 2009, the club has actively promoted skating and ice hockey in Abu Dhabi, developed competitive teams, and collaborated with local, regional, and international sports bodies. It has also hosted numerous tournaments to promote Abu Dhabi as a destination for sports and tourism. His Excellency also highlighted the strategic role of the Ice Hockey Academy in providing education and training opportunities across various segments of society.
