ADSC Active Hub attracts more than 37,000 participants in Abu Dhabi, Al Dhafrah and Al Ain since launch
The Abu Dhabi Sports Council has announced that the number of participants in its Active Hub has reached 37,468 since its launch in February this year, with an almost 50/50 split between males and females.
The initiative, which provides public access to sports facilities in 20 public schools across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi after official school hours has seen heavy footfall resulting in enhancement to the level of community members practicing sports, which in turn establishes a positive culture for sports by making a range of activities part of everyone’s life and reflects positively on the happiness of men and women, their families and all members of society.
47.3% of the total participants were aged 19 years and over, 20.8% were between 6 and 9 years, 18.3% were 10-13 years, and 13.6% between 14 and 18 years. UAE nationals were the highest number of participants followed by Egyptian, Syrian, Jordanian, Yemeni, Palestinian, Sudanese, Indian, Moroccan and Omani nationals. Al Jahili School in Al Ain has attracted the largest number participants from the launch of the initiative to date.
Commenting on this milestone, Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of Sports Development Sector at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “The great footfall that Active Hub has witnessed emphasizes the importance of this initiative in encouraging individuals to practice sports, thus helping to build a healthy and active society and enhancing people’s quality of life in Abu Dhabi through various events and activities.”
Al Hashemi added, “We aim to provide a comprehensive sports environment that contributes to raising awareness of the importance of practicing sports while providing easy access to diverse activities that appeal to all age groups, as well as providing the services of specialized experts to improve the skills of participants and ensure that the correct exercises and practices are followed in all sports provided under the initiative.”
Active Hub reflects the keenness of the Abu Dhabi government to encourage the participation of individuals in group activities that contribute to building an inclusive community through sports. The initiative also strengthens the bonds between community members as individuals and their families get to spend quality time with their friends and neighbours, which is a true reflection of Abu Dhabi’s plans and vision to establish a positive culture for sports and build a cohesive society.
