TEAM UB RISE TO GLORY AFTER EDGING TEAM VIENNA IN 3X3 WORLD TOUR ABU DHABI FINAL
Team Ub has won the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Abu Dhabi Final on Sunday evening, December 11, at Yas Bay – Abu Dhabi’s newest waterfront.
Organized by Abu Dhabi Sports Council in cooperation with the International Basketball Federation, Taking place over two days, with the participation of 12 teams from nine different countries, it was Team Ub who won the title after beating Austria's Vienna 18-21 in the final; after an exciting match that saw a great rivalry from both teams, Team Ub received the award from Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of Sports Development Sector at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in the presence of Alex Sanchez, Managing Director of the International Basketball Federation.
It was Ub’s Marko Brankovic who was named the best player of the tournament, receiving his award from Ahmed Ismail Al Hosani, Executive Director of Strategic Planning at Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
Poland's Piotr Grabowski also won the Dunk Challenge, before being presented with his prize from Suhail Al Arifi, Executive Director of Events at Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
H.E. Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, congratulated Team Ub for winning the tournament and praised their great performance in the final and the strong competition from both teams amid the encouragement and enthusiasm of the fans.
Al Awani also praised the great level of skill shown by the teams participating in the World Tour Championship, which is one of the largest international events in the field of 3x3 basketball.
Al Awani said: "Abu Dhabi has achieved great success in hosting the largest sporting events, while strengthening its global position as a global sporting hub. We thank all the supporters, partners and sponsors for their great role in the success of the tournament, and we look forward even closer cooperation with the International Football Federation in the future."
Speaking about the championship, Marko Brankovic expressed his happiness at winning the title of best player, saying: "I am proud that my team won the title of the 2022 championship, as the competition was very strong, and we thank all the fans for supporting us during the tournament."
Piotr Grabowski, winner of the Dunk Challenge Award, said: "I am delighted to be at the finals in Abu Dhabi, and I’m so happy with the result I achieved in the Dunk Challenge. Thanks to the fans for their great interaction with me in the challenge, and I promise everyone I will learn more skills and techniques to gain more admiration and support in the upcoming tournaments."
It is worth mentioning that the championships began seven months ago, and toured 11 cities around the world, witnessed the establishment of more than 440 basketball matches, thousands of points scored, so that the qualified teams reached their last stop in Abu Dhabi to compete in the season finale.
The prize purse for the 12 3x3 basketball rounds in 2022 is worth $375,000, and in the finals held in Abu Dhabi, say prizes as follows:
The first place winner is $40,000; the second is $30,000; third is $22,000; the fourth is $16,000; fifth is $10,000; and the sixth is $6,000.
