The NBE Egyptian Super Cup kicks off in Abu Dhabi this October
Abu Dhabi will host the 2024 NBE Egyptian Super Cup, organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the United Sports Company, in cooperation with the UAE and Egyptian Football Associations, from 20 to 24 October. Abu Dhabi’s hosting duties are the results of efforts behind the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Egyptian Football Association, which stipulates hosting the contemporary form of the NBE Egyptian Super Cup in the UAE capital four times in a row. Al Ahly were last year’s winners.
The Al-Ahly, Ceramica, Pyramids and Zamalek teams will arrive in the UAE on 17 October, where subsidiary training will be held on 18 October and official training on 19 October in preparation for the semi-final matches. The teams will conduct further subsidiary training on 21 and 22 October, as well as official training on 23 October in preparation for the third and fourth place match and the final match.
In this year’s edition, Al Ahly and Ceramica Cleopatra will meet on Sunday, 20 October, at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium at 21:00 UAE time, while Zamalek and Pyramids meet at Al Nahyan Stadium at 17:05. On Thursday, 24 October, the winners of the previous two matches will play in the final at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium at 21:00, with the third and fourth place match held at Al Nahyan Stadium on the same day at 17:05.
His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, stated that Abu Dhabi hosting the NBE Egyptian Super Cup in its new form for the second time reflects the close ties between the UAE and Egypt.
Al Awani said: "The upcoming hosting is an important continuation of the plans to attract important regional, continental and international sporting events, in light of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council's directions and ambitious plans, and the great efforts that have made Abu Dhabi a platform for meeting the world's most elite athletes, teams and global sports decision-makers."
He added: "We are proud to host the NBE Egyptian Super Cup, especially after the great successes achieved by past experiences and important gains. We are also keen at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in cooperation with all partners, to harness all capabilities to achieve organisational success for the NBE Egyptian Super Cup matches, and to work to enhance the prestigious reputation enjoyed by major events."
Engineer Saif Al Waziri, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of United Sports Company, confirmed that the continuation of the NBE Egyptian Super Cup 2024 in the UAE for years to come is a true reflection of the strong ties between Egypt and the UAE. It was thanks to this that the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the United Sports Company developed the tournament format, transforming it into an exceptional championship in which the best four Egyptian football teams compete for the title in the presence of a large Egyptian audience amidst the backdrop of generous Emirati hospitality.
Al Waziri added that the cooperation between the United Sports Company and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council was not limited in past years to hosting the Super Cup, but also extended to other activities such as hosting the Egyptian national team in international matches and camps before important tournaments.
It is expected that even more activities will result in the future, details of which will be announced soon.
