37,000 Participants Join the Seventh Edition of the “Abu Dhabi Marathon 2025”
The seventh edition of the Abu Dhabi Marathon 2025, organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and held under the sponsorship of ADNOC, attracted more than 37,000 runners across its various race categories, including the full marathon, relay marathon, 10 km, 5 km, 2.5 km, and the race dedicated to People of Determination.
The marathon was officially flagged off by H.E. Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and Omar Suwaidi, Director of the Executive Office and Sustainability Division at ADNOC. The 10 km race was launched by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Assistant General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and Yasser Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of Infrastructure, Digital, Commercial, and Capital Projects at ADNOC. The 2.5 km race was flagged off by H.E. Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of Events Sector at ADSC, and Nouf Al Bushailibi, Acting Head of Strategic Communications and Corporate Identity. The 5 km race was launched by Nasser Yousef Al Zaabi, Executive Director of Strategic Affairs Sector at ADSC, and Meshal Al Kindi, Chief Executive Officer of Enancement at ADNOC.
Winners were crowned by H.E. Aref Hamad Al Awani; Shaki Messina, representing Nike; Musabah Al Kaabi, CEO of ADNOC’s Exploration, Development and Production Directorate; H.E. Hussain Al Hammadi, Executive Director of Crisis Management at Tadweer; Taiba Al Hashmi, CEO of ADNOC Offshore; Nouf Al Bushailibi; and H.E. Talal Al Hashemi.
The event, which began at 5:45 a.m. from Zayed Sports City, marked another milestone in promoting Abu Dhabi’s sporting culture, reinforcing the UAE’s global reputation in international sports, and supporting nationwide efforts to encourage community members to adopt sports as a lifestyle.
Participation numbers included approximately 5,000 runners in the marathon and relay marathon, 8,000 in the 10 km race, 11,000 in the 5 km race, and 13,000 in the 2.5 km race.
Elite Results
Men’s Marathon:
Turkish runner Kaan Kigen Özbilen claimed first place with a time of 2:07:27. Ethiopian athlete (name not provided) finished second at 2:08:09, while Kenya’s Kenneth Kiprop Kipkemoi came in third with 2:08:32.
Women’s Marathon:
Kenya’s Catherine Reline Amanangole secured her second consecutive title, finishing in 2:21:17. Fellow Kenyan Edna Kiplagat placed second with 2:25:07, and Ethiopia’s Bortukan Yifru finished third in 2:25:25.
Wheelchair Category:
French athlete Laurent Lepolite won with a finishing time of 1:59:00.
The marathon route took runners past some of Abu Dhabi’s most iconic landmarks, including Qasr Al Hosn, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Wahat Al Karama, Zayed Sports City, ADNOC Headquarters, and Capital Gate.
10 km Race Results
Men:
Ethiopia’s Leta Mamo won the 10 km race with a time of 29:21, followed closely by compatriots Bekele Ketesa and Kiranso Nimera, both finishing in 29:21.
Women:
Ethiopian runner Berhan Arigawi secured first place with 37:52, followed by Sergut Akele in 38:23, and British runner Tamsin Sangster in 38:50.
Awards
The total prize pool exceeded USD 300,000, with the elite marathon champions (men and women) each earning USD 50,000.
Winners in the wheelchair category received USD 3,150 each, along with additional prizes for second and third place, as well as awards across the 10 km categories.

He extended his gratitude to ADNOC for its sponsorship and support, and to all partners and volunteers whose efforts contributed to the success of the 2025 edition.

The eighth edition of the Abu Dhabi Marathon is scheduled for 12 December 2026.
