The Fatima Bint Mubarak Women Sports Award has announced the closure of nominations for its 10th edition, having received 509 applications from 13 Arab countries, marking a 96% increase compared to the previous edition. This significant growth reflects the Award’s expanding reach and the prominent position it has established across the Arab world.

The Award is held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Nation,” Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, with the support, guidance and follow-up of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and President of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Ladies Clubs.

The United Arab Emirates topped the list of participating countries with 224 applications, while the total number of participating nations reached 13 Arab countries, reflecting the growing regional interest in the Award and its mission to celebrate achievement and excellence in women's sports.

Across the Award categories, the Best Arab Female Athlete category attracted the highest number of applications, with 110 submissions, followed by the Best Emirati Female Athlete category with 88 applications.

His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasised that the substantial increase in applications for the 10th edition reflects the Award's growing stature and the confidence it has earned throughout its previous editions. He noted that the 96% rise in applications compared to the previous edition strengthens the level of competition and highlights the Award's increasing prominence across the Arab sporting landscape.

Al Awani said: “Receiving 509 applications for the 10th edition represents an important milestone in the Award's continued development and the expansion of participation from across the Arab world. It also demonstrates the commitment of athletes, sports professionals and institutions to participating in an Award that has become a leading platform for recognising achievement and excellence in women's sports.”

He added: “Following the closure of nominations, we are now entering a new phase of the Award. We look forward to completing the evaluation and judging processes in accordance with the approved criteria, culminating in the recognition of outstanding achievers and inspiring role models who have contributed to the development of women's sports and strengthened their presence.”

The total prize value for the 10th edition amounts to AED 2.2 million, distributed across nine individual and team categories. These include Best Arab Female Athlete, Best Emirati Female Athlete, Best Paralympic Female Athlete, Best Young Female Athlete, Best Coach (Male or Female), Best Sports Media Influencer, Best Sports Family, Best Female Athlete in Non-Olympic Sports, and Best Team.

A special award will also be presented to the Arab Sports Personality of the Year, selected by the judging committee in recognition of an Arab figure who has made significant contributions to supporting and advancing women's sports.

The increase in applications highlights the continued development of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women Sports Award and its role in showcasing outstanding sporting achievements, celebrating inspiring role models, and motivating female athletes and sports professionals to pursue further excellence. These efforts contribute to the advancement of women's sports and strengthen their presence at both regional and international levels.
