Abu Dhabi Government Games Championship 2024 kicks off tomorrow at Abu Dhabi Sports Hub

The Abu Dhabi Government Games Championship competitions will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, 13 March, at the Abu Dhabi Sports Hub. The competitions are organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, with the support of the Government Support Department, and featuring participation of more than 40 government agencies from Abu Dhabi.

There will 11 sports represented: football, archery, padel, fitness, volleyball, table tennis, basketball, chess, badminton, running and cycling.

The Abu Dhabi Government Games Championship will be held from 3 to 19 Ramadan, in celebration of the blessed month and as part of the Job Interaction and Well-being programme to enhance the positive feelings of employees, improve their performance, human relations, and professional and personal development in the work environment. Additionally, the programme aims to deliver a positive impact on their mental and psychological health within a competitive and enthusiastic atmosphere that celebrates the spirit of challenge and teamwork.

Participating teams from government agencies will compete from nine in the evening until two in the morning, with the goals of enhancing employee relationships in a positive, attractive sports environment and encouraging the largest number of employees to practice sports and make it part of a daily lifestyle, in addition to enhancing the quality-of-life index.

Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, confirmed that the successes of the first Abu Dhabi Government Games Championship reflected in the importance of holding the second edition, which begins tomorrow amid great participation from various male and female employees of government bodies, departments and institutions in Abu Dhabi.

Al Awani said: “The tournament has become a distinctive mark in the agenda of sporting events organised by Abu Dhabi, especially as it motivates government employees and helps them adopt a healthy lifestyle at all levels, physically, mentally and socially, in order to establish a stronger, healthier and more sustainable future.”

He added: “Health challenges force us at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council to create opportunities for government employees to participate side by side with their colleagues in many sports, within a competitive social atmosphere, to enhance their quality-of-life index.”

24 government agencies will participate in the football tournament, 30 in padel, 15 in 3x3 basketball, 11 in volleyball, 34 in badminton, 34 in table tennis, 30 in chess, 14 in fitness, and 23 in shooting.

A women's running race will be organised on 19 March at Yas Marina Circuit, a men's running race on 24 March at Abu Dhabi Sports Hub, a men's cycling race on 21 March at the Al Hudayriat Island Cycling Track, and a women's cycling race on 26 March at Yas Marina Circuit. Registration will remain open for the running and cycling races until their respective dates, to give Abu Dhabi government employees more opportunities to participate.
