ONE DAY TO GO: SPARTAN CITY RETURNS TO ABU DHABI THIS SATURDAY
The final countdown is officially on. With just one day to go, Abu Dhabi is preparing to welcome thousands of participants to Spartan City as the region's leading obstacle race returns to Etihad Arena on Yas Island this Saturday, 13 June 2026.
Organised by Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and Spartan Middle East in collaboration with ITP Media Group, Spartan City will bring together athletes, fitness enthusiasts, corporate teams, families and first-time racers for a unique obstacle course racing experience unlike any other in the UAE.
Participants will take on a thrilling 3km course featuring 15 signature Spartan obstacles designed to test strength, endurance, agility and resilience. Starting inside Etihad Arena, racers will make their way through a series of obstacles around the arena then heading out towards Yas Bay Beach and returning to the arena to cross the finish line and claim their Spartan finisher medal and race t-shirt.
For families, Spartan Kids will offer young participants the chance to experience the Spartan challenge through age-appropriate race formats. Open to children aged 4 to 14, the programme includes an open race at 1km and 1.5km and turns competitive for the 3km race distance, encouraging confidence, movement and resilience in a fun and supportive environment. All participants will receive a Spartan Kids finisher medal, while winners of the 3km Kids Race will each receive Silver Yas Annual Passes, courtesy of Miral.
Following a successful debut edition that attracted more than 2,000 participants, Spartan City continues to grow as one of Abu Dhabi's most anticipated community fitness events, welcoming everyone from seasoned Spartans to those taking on their very first obstacle race.
Commenting ahead of race day, His Excellency Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Events Sector at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said:
"Spartan City reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting active lifestyles and creating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to engage in sport. We look forward to welcoming participants from across the UAE and beyond to experience a world-class event that celebrates challenge, achievement and community”
With race waves departing every 15 minutes from 7:15am onwards, spectators and participants can expect a full day of action, entertainment and community spirit at one of the region's most iconic venues.
