Under the patronage of Hamdan bin Zayed, the Abu Dhabi Desert Rally is holding its 33rd edition
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the Abu Dhabi Desert Rally competitions will be held in its 33rd edition during the period from February 25 to March 2, 2024.
The 2024 edition of the rally is the third edition of the World Long Desert Rally Cup (W2RC), in which the Abu Dhabi Rally begins as the second round of the World Long Desert Rally Championship after the Dakar Rally, where the International Automobile Federation and the International Motorcycle Federation launched the first edition of the World Rally Championship. The rally organizing committee announced that registration is open until February 10, 2024.
30 editions of the Abu Dhabi Desert Rally, which was called the “Emirates Desert Challenge,” were organized before the establishment of the World Cup for Long Desert Rallyes. The idea of the Abu Dhabi Desert Rally arose through Emirati thought from the current President of the International Automobile Federation, His Excellency Mohammed bin Sulayem.
The Abu Dhabi Desert Rally is a global event, attracting the best racers in the world, and uniting motorsport enthusiasts in 190 countries around the world through extensive media and television coverage.
The Abu Dhabi Desert Rally has been organized for three decades with the cooperation of government agencies and competent institutions to present a high-level event, according to a strategic plan to represent the Al Dhafra region in all its cultural, sporting and tourism aspects.
His Excellency Arif Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “The Abu Dhabi Sports Council firmly believes in the importance of international events, and the Abu Dhabi Desert Rally represents the jewel of the UAE’s sporting achievements, as it is one of the oldest sporting events in the country, and it continues to attract the best racers in the world as well as Motorsport fans.
His Excellency added: “We work side by side with the Emirates Motor and Motorcycle Organization on various projects throughout the year, starting from Formula 1 to local rallies, and we feel proud to join forces with them for the second year in a row in this event that reaffirms Abu Dhabi’s position as a hub.” A major player in the arena of sporting excellence in the world.
Khalid bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Emirates Motor and Motorcycle Organization, said: “A lot of work is being done behind the scenes to organize an event of the size and complexity of the Abu Dhabi Desert Rally, which would not be possible without the support of the Abu Dhabi government.”
